Is good for you good for me?

Dear Room 14,

Welcome back to Term 3. This term we are studying an interesting yet serious Rich Task involving fairness, citizenship, etc, with a Dance focus. We have some nice books like Listen to the Wind, The Village that Vanished, Nelson Mandela - Long Walk to Freedom, etc.

So, have you thought about what is fair and what is unfair? Sometimes we think people are not being fair to us because we don't get what we need or want. Sometimes we don't treat peopel fairly and hurt their feelings - is it fair? How fair can we be? Share your ideas and opinions in the comments section and I would like to see what you think.

I am also pleased to see how you all passion for the dance that we are going to do and here are some photos of you guys with the tutor from NZ Ballet. Enjoy the photos!

Rich Task Exposition - How would you know you are one of us?

Dear Room 14,

Congratulations for your Rich Task Exposition this morning! It was brilliant and I thoroughly enjoyed every single part of it! There were a variety of presentations and performances which clearly show how much effort we have put into our learning at school. Good job!

Thank you all for working so hard for the last few weeks and another thank-you to Jonathan who took time off work to come and celebrate our leaning together.

Special Guest - illustrator Nina Rycroft

Dear Room 14,

We had a special guest, Nina Rycroft, who came to our school to share her experience as an illustrator this morning. We have had a quick look at most of her amazing artwork, and we have learnt that it takes time to craft and polish your work in order to create a quality product. Sometimes we need to go back and re-work or edit our work to make it better!

A big thank-you to our school librarian Bronwyn who has organised and invited Nina to come and talk to us about how she gets ideas from things or people around her, how she organises her ideas using a storyboard, how she uses the setting to enhance the characterisation, etc. We had a good time with Nina!

New Visitors to Room 14

Dear Room 14,

We have some new visitors to Room 14 this week, including two tiny frogs and one tadpole. Most of the time they just sit still on the rocks doing nothing (or thinking?) and may move a little bit once or twice a day.

The frogs and tadpole will be with us for 4 days only and they will go back to Room 30 next week. Please make sure you take some time to look at them and find out more about them.

Happy learning!

Lily

Turangawaewae for Term 2

Dear Room 14,

We have started our Term 2 quickly with trips to the Art Gallery, Central City Library and Albert Park for our Rich Task focus Turangawaewae. Some of you did beautiful artwork with signs and symbols. The artwork that displayed at the gallery were brilliant and amazing. We have learnt so much from the educators. Soon we will be on the road again for our visit to Eden Park!

In class we have discussed about our own identity (with mini T-shirt design), where we belong, different ways to greet and welcome people we don't know or new to New Zealand. We also talked about important things for travellers such as transportation, accommodation, communication, including currency and medication.

I really enjoy our Rich Task because it is so RICH and there are so much we can do! I hope you are enjoying our Rich Task as much as I do! Let me know what you think!

Farewell Jonathan!

Dear Room 14,

Today is the last day for our student-teacher Jonathan and he has been an awesome teacher in our class. We will all miss him alot!

One of many cool things we have learnt from Jonathan is how to make a stencil art using spray paint. It came out so well! Most of you have finished your artwork and here are the photos of your artwork! You will find them on top of the curtain rails as soon as you walk in!

Share these photos with your family and friends and leave some thank-you message here for Jonathan when you have time. Your post/comment may not show up straight away but it will be there the next day.

Enjoy the photos!

Special Visitor - Anna Gowan

Dear Room 14,

The student-teacher Jonathan has been reading to us this cool book called Hollie Chips. We all enjoy it very much and can't wait to know what will happen at the end of the book. Thank you Jonathan!

We also had a lovely morning on Tuesday because we had a special visitor with us - Anna Gowan! She is the author of this lovely book called Hollie Chips and she also has a web site for her book! There are some interesting information about the characters in the book, latest news on what Anna is up to, and more! So find yourself some time to visit the web site and leave me some message here to tell me how much fun you had on the day with Anna!
