Let's get leafy!

Dear Room 17,

I would like to give you guys a THUNBS UP for your leafy homework. I was amazed by your indentification strategies and presentation skills - glue/tape leaves on poster with clear and colourful labels, laminate leaves with name tags, etc.

Here are some questions for you to think about,
- What do you know about a leaf?
- What is leaf arrangement?
- What kind of leaves can you find around your neighbourhood? Eg, school or the local park.
- How do you identify the leaves?
- What can leaves tell us about our local environment?

Take a couple of minutes and post your ideas and thoughts here! I am looking forward to seeing your posts!

Now have a look at what we had:

One more thing, can you remember the differences between 'need' and 'want'? Have a chat with your parents, friends, or neighbours, and yes I NEED you and I WANT you to post your ideas here NOW!

hi lily,
i love the blog its looking super!
i enjoyed looking at all the leaves people brought in.

i think want means something you really think you need but you dont you just want to have it for pleasure!

i think need means when you dont just want something you actually need it because it might actually be quite important!

Hi Room 17 - We are liking your posts. Some really clear and thoughtful responses to NEED and WANT.

Room 18 is currently working on deciding in groups - what really are the basic needs and separating them from wants.

Some examples to get you thinking:

NEEDS: Clothing, Shelter, Money, Food, Water, Air, Bigger House, Bigger Room, Education ... to mention a few that the children have discussed. There is some disagreement though with some of the ones I just mentioned.

Which do you think are really needs and which are wants?? Why??

Hi Lily

I think a want is something you do not need but you want.

I think a need is something you need to survive and is very useful.
